Transformation - Jane Austen Goes to Paris Cashmere Black Beret...
late, I find myself wanting to embellish mass-produced garments or
objects to turn them into one-of-a-kind pieces, and mostly to give them
a new and possibly better life.
I have been working on some hats and other headgear, transforming each piece with Jane Austen as a common theme or rather inspiration.
This is the most whimsical transformation I have undertaken to date. The basis for this beret is actually a black cashmere beret that was nowhere near warm enough for our New England winters.
The beret is now entirely lined in black satin for added warmth. Then I proceeded to add ribbons, beads and buttons to the hat.
The beading is made of glass seed beads with one big coral bead a counterweight piece.
All the transformation work is hand-stitched
