basis for this piece was a green jacket Dana gave me. It is smartly
military in inspiration. Dana wanted either a floral or a William
I chose William Morris: the back of the jacket is covered in thick
cotton, in a blackthorn pattern, the heart of each flower was in turn
highlighted with a freshwater pearl.
I covered the shoulders in Ianthe, a Liberty of London classic fabric.
The front flap has been dressed with a Lily Union linen, on which I
stitched a silver roundel, representing a woman’s profile, in a very
Art Nouveau style. The collar and pockets are embellished with a
“William Morris Workshop by Barbara Brackman” fabric in warm ochre and
orange tones. I chose a different adornment theme for each pocket:
buttons, glass flowers and a recycle sterling silver and freshwater
pearls earrings. The collar is highlighted with some crystals. On the
sleeves, I added some colorful Bruges lace, and I highlighted the
jacket hem with some tassels and beads. I also added a ribbon from the famous Officia
Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella in Florence.
