Kyoto Garden Jacket
he basis for this jacket is a Chaps zip-up jean jacket, size Large
(however, the jacket seems very small to me, a medium surely!).
I have chosen an assortment of cotton fabric to embellish the jacket,
some with a nice repetitive blue cloud motif, some with the traditional
floral/chrysanthemum pattern, and also some more modern rendition of a
traditional floral Asian pattern on the front. The breast pockets have
been embellished with pieces of a very old silk kimono. The wrists and
base of the jacket have been adorned with a ribbon appliqué, and I have
added some black lace to the wrists for a ah-ahs
One of the shoulders of the jacket has been heavily adorned with
vintage buttons, cinnabar and amazonite dangles. There is also a
pendant I fabricated with a cinnabar piece, a great vintage button and
some freshwater pearls. The collar sports a modern sterling silver
piece (previously an earring) and some small cloisonné beads. Swarovski
crystals have wondered down on the breast pockets, and a lovely jade
snake is coiled prettily on the pocket flap. I also stitched a very
substantial cinnabar piece on the front of the jacket.
Of course, a beautiful Koi pin found its way on the piece: I am not
sure what it is made of, but I know it is not ivory, so there is
nothing objectionable about the piece.
