A Passage to India Jacket
started the piece to showcase a remnant piece of Indian silk Dupioni
fabric, heavily embroidered in colored silks and metallic threads, with
some pearl highlights. I used a fairly boxy white linen jacket as the
construction for the garment. I then added some hand dyed Venice lace to
the wrists, pockets and collar… and still felt it needed something else
until some abalone flowers bloomed on one of the lapels to reveal their
yellow and green freshwater pearl hearts.
And then I new the jacket was born… Edwardian and Marajah-like all at
once… ready for an evening with EM Foerster.
