Mrs Pepper's Lonely Hearts Tea Club
is a new life for a plain jean jacket, size small. The jean jacket was
initially bleached inside a washer to create some tie-dye effects. I
decided to transform it and give it a spirit of its own: it has been
embellished with various fabrics, with an overall floral theme:
sunflowers in the back, several patches of William Morris patterns,
some fine white lace on one of the pockets, and some Guatemala woven
cotton. I used some lace in a daisy pattern on the waist of the jacket
and some vintage cotton lace on the cuffs.
The patch and applique work was then enhanced with embroidery on some
of the seams. Then I added some beading with seed pearls, fresh water
pearls and color beads. From then I moved on to adding some buttons on
the collar, and pocket. Finally I have added some jewelry accents as
well, most particularly a superbly whimsical bird of Paradise, and some
Austrian crystal flowers.
