Transformation - Winter Hat - Jane Austen goes to Greenwich Village
late, I find myself wanting to embellish mass-produced garments or
objects to turn them into one-of-a-kind pieces, and mostly to give them
a new and possibly better life.
I have been working on some hats and other headgear, transforming each piece with Jane Austen as a common theme or rather inspiration.
The basis for this hat is a grey wool cloche hat, fully lined. One size will fit most as there is a tie in the back of the crown to adjust the hat.
I added the black satin trim and the wide black lace on the crown of the hat.
I also dressed up the hat with a vintage Chinese dragon metal carving mounted on wood and ribbon. The carving rests in a nest of William Morris fabric in a "Compton" pattern.
The transformation work is all hand stitched.
This is the perfect hat for the fall rain downpours... or for the first snowfall....
